Ms. Maggie Martel - First Grade Teacher
Since before I was able to talk, I was a member of the St. Francis Xavier church and school community. I grew up right around the block, being able to walk home from school and see the church steeples from my backyard. Receiving a higher education whilst being in a loving and supportive community was so important to me as a child, that as I grew up I knew I wanted to become a teacher. Seeing and feeling how my teachers at SFX cared for each and every one of their students encouraged me to make a difference in the lives of children, just as those teachers I had did for me. After continuing my Catholic education at Rice Memorial High School and St. Michael’s College, I knew I could come full circle, returning to St. Francis. I jumped back into the school community in 2021 working as staff in the after school program. I later became the assistant director working alongside Madame Hélène during the school year and summer camp programs. After graduating from St. Mike’s with a degree in elementary education and psychology, I took a long-term substitute position at St. Francis in the 4th grade classroom. I immediately felt back at home. I have come to fall in love with the community, faith, and devotion that St. Francis holds for the quality education for their students. I am beyond excited and blessed to be the first grade teacher and am eager to watch my students grow as friends, learners, and lovers of our faith.
When I’m not spending time with my students, I’m typically doing art projects at home or traveling with my partner, Andrew, who’s also a Saint Francis alumni. I also enjoy the art of baking, usually making enough to share with my students! I love bringing my creative energy into the classroom, making learning fun for all!
